"The Greatest"

I've been listening to this .mp3 for a few weeks now... Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power) has a style that is evocative and obscure, that I find myself listening over and over again to try to find meaning. I offer the following lyric as proof:

"Once I wanted to be the greatest
No wind or waterfall could stop me
And then came the rush of the flood
The stars at night turned you to dust..."

Perhaps in the end it's the sum total of the parts... the seemingly nonsensical lyric, a simple piano melody, and the voice, that voice, that causes me to return, like a moth to a flame.

The new record is due in stores, Jan. 24. More Cat Power videos can be found at Matador Records.

Toilet training for a cat would be even better ...does
