Three to Tengo
Yo La Tengo - Cat's Cradle, Carrboro NC
05 Feb 2007
I was among the throng of Chapel Hill hipsters* last night for the first of a two-night stand by Yo La Tengo. This trio are unbelievable musicians. I must confess that I've only recently been wooed by Yo La Tengo. Their latest release, "I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass" has quickly risen in status on my playlist and provides a great driving soundtrack to my commute.
+ Yo La Tengo - Mr. Tough.mp3
and from the "Prisoners of Love" retrospective:
+ Yo La Tengo - Stockholm Syndrome.mp3
They played quite a mix of full-on rockers, shoe-gaze ballads, a Kinks cover! and raucous instrumentals. They even left us with a sweetly melancholic instrumental from their 2005 score for the indie film "Junebug."
loads of more mp3 goodness to be had from the band's website.
Enjoy!

NoNoNo my friend. I beg to disagree.
You are a hipster. (well, like compared to me!) Deal with it!
By the way, I'm tagging you for some fun. Check out my post today.
Blessings! And keep the cool posts coming!
Thanks for the virtual kick in the pants. It was fun coming up with six weird things about myself. lol.
As for new music, I'm polishing up a new mix post for later.

hipster is as hipster does. but i don't blame you for not wanting to be called one...after a certain age, it gets embarrassing i think, unless you're a lesbian.
yo la tengo is so great. my fave album is "and then nothing turned itself inside-out"
cheers!
Hi Luisa...
I am addicted to the "Prisoners of Love" 3-disc retrospective that came out last year I think. I'm sure there's a good representation of all YLT's albums...but I am not familiar with "and then nothing turned itself inside-out" per se.
If you get a chance, you should see them live. They are incredible, but then you already knew that.
As for the lesbian comment... well, I must confess: I am attracted to women.
